Songs and Stories

Singer, actor, and storyteller Ed McCurdy (1919–2000) recorded this collection of songs and stories for children in 1959. Accompanying himself on guitar, McCurdy creates whimsical songs and stories with subjects ranging from Enoch Slaughter’s peculiar daughter (“A Wealthy Man Named Enoch Slaughter”) to a seagull who becomes a ship’s captain (“Captain Gregory O’Shaughnessy”). The liner notes contain a complete transcript of the songs and stories.
