Various Artists
Fast Folk Musical Magazine (June 1984, Vol. 1, No. 6): The Blues This edition of Fast Folk Musical Magazine focuses on traditional blues, with 10 vocal and two instrumental numbers. The instrumentals are Thomas "Fats" Waller's "Viper's Drag" performed by Howie Wyeth on piano and "Country Rag," a traditional string band composition performed by Raoul and Amos Otis. As for the blues vocals, Dave Van Ronk performs Blind Willie Johnson's "Motherless Children," John Hammond Jr. sings Sleepy John Estes’ "Drop Down Mama," Paul Geremia performs Pink Anderson's "Ain't Nobody Home But Me," and Bob Zaidman performs "1919 Influenza Blues." In a more modern vein, the group Rhythm & Romance offers up "I Like You Fine" with vocalist Nikki Mathenson. A 16-page facsimile of Fast Folk Musical Magazine is included with the recording.
