Politics and Poker

Subtitled “Songs to Get Elected By,” this collection of political campaign songs is ably performed by veteran Broadway and screen actor Howard Da Silva with assistance from the Ward Heelers. The selection of songs spans American presidential campaigns from Thomas Jefferson’s first campaign in 1800 to Thomas Dewey’s unsuccessful 1944 campaign. Two delightful, if cynical, songs from the Broadway musical Fiorello, “Politics and Poker” and “Little Tin Box,” and an original song, the calypso–accented “Vote for Me,” round out this collection.
Brief liner notes provide information about the songs.
