On Rose and Crown, English-born Canadian folk singer Ian Robb performs a collection of traditional songs and tradition-grounded originals, steeped in the style of the British Isles. Though the music is rooted in an older sound, Rose and Crown deals with contemporary themes, including songs about the recently married Princess Diana and the war in the Falkland Islands. Among its traditional songs are "The Jolly Grinder", "The Female Rambling Sailor", and the often recorded "The Trees They do Grow High".

Joining Robb's skillful concertina are Ian Bell on accordion and bass, Grit Laskin on guitar and tenor banjo, Anne Lederman on piano and fiddle, Shelley Posen on 5-string banjo, and Allistair Brown on accordion.
