A Ti, Colombia

A Ti, Colombia

Accordionist Ivan Cuesta was born in the Rio Atrato valley of northern Colombia and in high school began playing vallenato, a form that mixes Spanish, African, and Indian elements. Moving to Baltimore, Maryland, in 1976, Cuesta has continued to dedicate himself to this upbeat, danceable music. “You put yourself, your experiences, your best into the music,” he says.
