Recorded under the artist’s given name Chaim Teicher, Kenny Karen’s 1970 debut is a collection of sparse, unconventional arrangements of Jewish cantorial singing. Released when Kenny was 26 years old, he dedicated the release to “the hopes of all children.” Featuring Karen’s full-throated tenor intoning over minimalist organ and piano accompaniment, the innate drama of liturgical singing is on full display.
