Lemon “Papa Lemon” Nash was an iterant musician who traveled for many years with tent shows throughout the South. When not traveling with a circus or medicine show, Nash made his home in New Orleans busking in the Vieux Carré. On three occasions between 1959 and 1961, Tulane University Hogan Jazz Archive curator Dick Allen interviewed Nash about his life and music. Stories and songs from those interviews coupled with music recorded by Dr. Harry Oster form the basis of this recording. Outside of the Hogan Jazz Archive, it remains the only available recording of “Papa Lemon.”
