Silver Threads Among the Gold

Smokey Joe Miller (1918–2009) and His Georgia Pals (Newman Young and Lawrence Humphries) perform traditional country and bluegrass songs in a relaxed style. With guitar, mandolin, and occasional resonator guitar (Dobro), the three sing and play their way through a variety of sentimental songs including four selections of their own composition. They sing of unrequited love and of loss, sometimes the death of children. Have your hankies ready! The liner notes, written by Miller, provide the song lyrics and brief background information about the performers. Smokey Joe Miller and His Georgia Pals also recorded two other albums for Folkways Records: The Georgia Pals (FW31107), a recording devoted to gospel music, and Old American Heart Throbs (FW31093).
