The Ruse of the Empty City: A Traditional Peking Opera

Recorded in China and released in 1960, this opera tells the compelling tale of the defense of a city left vulnerable by a disobedient general. Both tragic and triumphant, The Ruse of the Empty City is an excellent example of the traditional Chinese art form of Peking Opera. The audible acrobatics of the performers lend a level of authenticity only found in live recordings. Liner notes include a synopsis of the play as well as the full script.
