Joe Mullins - Sites of Ohio's Musical Legacy: Herzog Studio [Behind The Scenes Documentary]
Watch the second in a series of videos with Joe Mullins discussing the influential sites of the story behind ‘Industrial Strength Bluegrass: Southwestern Ohio’s Musical Legacy,’ released March 26th on Smithsonian Folkways. Cincinnati’s WLW radio station and Herzog Studio were pivotal in turning the city into a destination for great country entertainers and bluegrass performers by the late 1940s. Here, Mullins stands outside the studio, created by WLW engineer Bucky Herzog, where many famous recordings were made — from Hank Williams’ first big hit “Lovesick Blues,” to Flatt & Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys’ “Foggy Mountain Breakdown.”
