Our Native Daughters - "Mama's Cryin' Long" [Behind The Scenes Documentary]

In this behind-the-scenes documentary, watch the making of "Mama's Cryin' Long" from Songs of Our Native Daughters. It was brought to the album by Rhiannon Giddens (who sings lead vocal on the track) and originally comes from a slave narrative told from the perspective of a child.

Songs of Our Native Daughters available on CD, Vinyl LP, and Digital.

Songs of Our Native Daughters, a stunning thirteen-track album based on historical notions and observations of slavery written and performed by Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Leyla McCalla, Allison Russell (Birds of Chicago), and Amythyst Kiah, is available February 22, 2019 on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. Co-produced by Giddens and Dirk Powell (Balfa Toujours, Joan Baez), the collection portrays the often overlooked suffering, resilience, and agency of black women in the face of intersectional oppression throughout American history.
