Calabria Bella, Dove T'hai Lasciate?: Italian Folk Music Collected in New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island, Vol. 2
Various Artists

This album, released by Folkways Records in 1979, is the second volume of Italian folk music collected by producer Anna Chairetakis. It follows In Mezz’una Strada Trovai una Pianta di Rosa: Italian Folk Music Collected in New York and New Jersey, Vol. 1, released the same year. Chairetakis puts the lesser-known Italian folk style of la musica popolare in the spotlight, examining how Italian immigrants living in America retain their musical culture. The music includes a variety of instruments and musical tempos and styles, running the gamut from soothing lullabies to bouncy polkas. The liner notes include commentary from Chairetakis on the importance of this undertaking with background information and lyrics to the songs.
