My Hero Gene Autry

Few figures are more evocative of the mythic American West than cowboy singer and film star Gene Autry. Produced in cooperation with the Autry Museum of Western Heritage and recorded live at Gene Autry’s 90th birthday celebration, My Hero Gene Autry celebrates his body of work and contributions to Western culture and heritage. Presented by Don Edwards with support from Peter Rowan and the Time-Warp Top Hands (which features the likes of Rich O’Brien and Tom Morrell, to name a few), My Hero Gene Autry stands out in its special attention to the early style of Autry’s career, offering an interpretation of Autry’s work that is closer to the roots of Western music than the grander style of his time in Hollywood.
Reacting to the performance, Autry said the following:
“Don, I will always treasure the wonderful gift of music you gave to me on my ninetieth birthday. Your beautiful tribute album brought back many special memories for me, as I hope it does for your listeners. I’m proud and honored to be riding the same trail as you.”
