The Moon Is Rising

Bluesman Earl Hooker (1930–1970) was considered by his peers to be a “musician’s musician.” In the 1960s, there wasn’t a better slide guitarist to be found in Chicago. In 1968 and 1969 Arhoolie Records founder and producer Chris Strachwitz recorded several sessions with Earl both in Chicago and in California. This collection includes music from those sessions and four live tracks of Earl playing at Theresa’s Lounge on Chicago’s South Side. Earl’s life and musical career were cut short by tuberculosis in 1970.
