The Quiet Times

Kevin Roth
The Quiet Times Kevin Roth’s twelfth album for Folkways focuses on a theme of tranquility. Backed by an instrumental ensemble composed of oboe and English horn, classical guitar, bass, and percussion, Roth plays dulcimer on nine tracks, singing on eight. On one track, Spanish composer Manuel de Falla’s “The Fisherman’s Song” is coupled with a spoken-word narrative entitled “Visions,” written and recited by Appalachian folk performer (and Folkways recording artist) Ola Belle Reed (1916–2002). The piece harkens back to a simpler time of looking at various aspects of the quietness of nature. Song lyrics as well as musician and production credits are included.
