The Kuria and Gusii are neighboring tribes living in the South Nyanza province located in southeastern Kenya. Music of Kuria and the Gusii of Western Kenya, originally released in 1972, offers an authentic experience of the indispensable role music has in the tribes’ ways of life. This album contains tracks ranging from formal ceremonial music to drinking songs. Each track features a unique Kenyan instrument, each of which is documented in the liner notes. Liner notes also contain a history of the relationship between the Kuria and Gusii tribes and full track descriptions.
