Dom Flemons and Los Texmaniacs nominated for 2019 Grammy Awards

Congratulations are in order to Dom Flemons and Los Texmaniacs, who have been recognized for their incredible work in folk and traditional music with 2019 Grammy Award nominations!

Dom Flemons’ Black Cowboys, called “the coolest of auditory histories” by No Depression, is nominated for Best Folk Album. The album takes the listener on an illuminating journey from the trails to the rails of the Old West, following the footsteps of the thousands of African American pioneers who helped build the United States of America.

Los Texmaniacs’ Cruzando Borders, features all-star guest appearances from country legends Lyle Lovett and Rick Treviño, is a “vital heartbeat for a group of folks who truly have one foot on either side of the border,” according to NPR Music and has been nominated for Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano).

What a way to cap off Smithsonian Folkways’ 70th anniversary year of celebration!
