Smithsonian Folkways Wins Three Independent Music Awards
For the fourth consecutive year, Smithsonian Folkways won multiple Independent Music Awards as selected by a panel of judges.
- Best Compilation: JAZZ: The Smithsonian Anthology. This 111-track collection traces the turning points of this 20th-century invention through its most notable styles.
- Best Latin Album: ¡Cimarrón! Joropo Music from the Plains of Colombia. The internationally acclaimed Colombian ensemble lives up meaning of their name Cimarrón —“wild bull” — on this recording.
- Best Swag (promotional material): Jazz: The Smithsonian Anthology T-shirt. Designed by Visual Dialogue, which also designed the packaging for this collection.
In total, fifteen Smithsonian Folkways projects were selected as finalists for the 11th Independent Music Awards. Finalists are also eligible for the Vox Populi awards as determined by fan voting and voting is open until midnight Friday, July 20th. Click here to submit your votes!
