Temiar Dream Music of Malaya

Various Artists
Temiar Dream Music of Malaya This 1955 Folkways album is a collection of field recordings made by E.D. Robertson and D.H. Noone of the music of the Temiar tribes living in the jungle-covered mountains of Malaysia. The Temiar are a deeply spiritual people whose religion is based on singing and dancing rituals, through which the power of healing, grace, and help are granted. The songs in this album are “dream songs,” sung at night in a Temiar longhouse. Liner notes contain introductions to Temiar culture by both Robertson and Noone and a track-by-track explanation of each song.
