video spotlightFajardo Stars Perform at the 2002 Waswantu Pumpin Contest
On August 14, 1985, an army patrol entered the town of Accomarca, Peru, and killed 62 residents suspected of collaborating with Maoist insurgents. Subsequent investigations by the Peruvian Congress and the military absolved the soldiers of all responsibility. Through song contests, musicians and dancers from the region continue to recount these events in their communities. The above video features a performance by the Fajardo Stars. Recorded February 20, 2002, at the Waswantu Pumpin Contest. Recorded by Jonathan Ritter. Courtesy of Jonathan Ritter.
